Sony's Playstation Portable is designed to be a compact version of the full sized Playstation. It is very powerful, thanks to the two 64-bit chips and out muscles its main rival, the Nintendo DS.

Games are played via the UMD (Universal Media Disc) format. UMD is available worldwide, unlike the DVD format used by the full size Playstation and most other game consoles, which has regional restrictions.

Sony's Playstation Portable (PSP) is relatively expensive and retails for around £200. The Nintendo DS is around half of this price.
