The Playstation was first manufactured by Sony in the mid 1990's. The Playstation is the first game console to ship over 100 million units. Sony achieved that milestone in 2005.
In 2006, Sony launched the much awaited Playstation 3. The Playstation 3 is 40 times more powerful than the Playstation 2., thanks to the Cell Broadband Engine. This is a game developers dream and enables them to build games that provide more of anything and everything.
Playstation is more of an entertainment system than a dedicated game console. It has a built-in Blu-ray Disc drive which will deliver a new generation in high-definition gaming, Blu-ray movies, massive digital media storage, music and online services.
Playstation 3 comes with a High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI), which means that it can be used with high-definition televisions and conventional televisions.
Playstation 3 has a massive 60GB removable hard disk drive. This allows you to store music, images and video and download content from the Sony online service.
Playstation 3 will work together with PSP to enable you to exchange photos, videos and music.
Playstation 3 has some backwards compatibilty and can use used to play over 1000 PSone and Playstation 2 games. Please note that it is not compatible with all PSone and Playstation 2 games.
The graphics on the Playsation 3 is powered by a super powerful NVidia graphics chip called an RSX ("Reality Synthesizer").
